On Sunday, November 3rd, 1996 my life changed drastically. On that Sunday morning I was sitting on a bar stool at our pub and restaurant and suddenly the stool collapsed underneath me – and I don’t even drink! I broke my back and neck and am now paralyzed from the chest down (although some limited movement has returned). Itwas so hard to come to terms with – eight months earlier I had sung continuously for eleven days. twenty minutes thus breaking the world record for non-stop singing. The whole event was to raise funds for the Center for the Disabled (my own daughter Mareena has Cerebral Palsy). And now, here I was dreadfully disabled. How life is strange.
In one split second, my life opened out into a different field – of dreams? I don’t think so. I had often heard it said that when an accident like this happens, the whole family suffers. Oh Lord above, is that ever so true. The last five years have been been a living hell for myself, my wife, Mary and my daughter, Mareena. We prayed long and hard for that miracle, and it looked as though everyone in the Capital District did as well. I humbly thank you all.
‘Not my will but Thine be done’ is a phrase that we all struggle with, and I promised the Lord that if He showed me some sign of a semi-decent life returning, then I would shout His praises aloud. Thus this CD. I am still not strong enough to record a complete CD by myself, so I called upon my friends. Everyone was more than willing to co-operate with me in my efforts to present a spiritual and uplifting recording. The plans were set…
On Tuesday, September 11th, 2001 our lives changed drastically. On that Tuesday morning the unthinkable happened and America became paralyzed. Let us all hope and pray that some day we will break free from this torture. I hope and pray that God will ease my agony and make me realise how miniscule my problems are compared to those of the families in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania. I hope that you – the listener 0 will find some message in this CD that will give you the strength and courage to overcome your difficulties.

On January 21st, 1996, at precisely 6:01 pm, Eamonn McGirr broke the world record for non-stop singing. Millions of tv viewers throughout the world witnessed this massive human endurance effort, which, in fact, lasted a total of 11 days, 20 minutes. The marathon was dedicated to his daughter, Mareena, who has Cerebral Palsy, and is confined to a wheelchair. While singing continuously, Eamonn raised money for the Center for the Disabled in Albany, in upstate New York. The C.P. Telethon produced a record-breaking $1.3 million on Sunday, January 21st, and Eamonn was delighted to be a huge part of that success. Different – Yet the Same sums up the message that Eamonn projected across the world throughout the grueling marathon: “Look past the wheelchair, look past the walker: there is a child, a human being – different- yet the same! He won’t ask for your pity or your sympathy-but surely you should care!” With much success in the music charts back home in Ireland before coming to the U.S. with his wife, Mary and daughter, Mareena Eamonn now offers you his long-awaited recording. Please enjoy…
